Before moving to Australia we want to buy American Apple IPhones and a Macbook computer. Is it a good idea to do this? Do these work in Australia?

It’s always “better” to purchase a mobile phone in a well-developed country of primary use.
Frequency coverage bands DO vary, carriers theoretically might not activate a “foreign” device, you’d be liable for any import duties, and then there’s the potential warranty coverage issue.

I'm sure MacBook Pro/Air works in Australia, though iPhone should be SIM Free iPhone you need to purchase.
iPhones meant for the U.S. market probably will not have a warranty that's valid for service in Australia.
The situation with Macs may be different.
Should I consider purchasing American Apple products for use in Australia?
