iCloud password for Windows not working in Edge

Hi,

I have been using iCloud passwords in Edge (Version 126.0.2592.87 Official build 64-bit) for years now. I'm not an everyday Windows 11 user. I have multiple versions of Linux on this PC as well as I own a M1 Mac mini. Periodically I am in Windows 11 and need to have access to my passwords. It has been a little bit since I've used it. Today when I click on iCloud Passwords it brings up the iCloud Settings screen. Passwords and Keychain is turned off for some reason. I click Approve and then enter the code from my iPhone. It accepts it and goes back to the iCloud Settings screen where Password and Keychain is still turned off even though I approved it. I tried that 4 or 5 times and get the same result.

I then tried to Repair and Reset the iCloud for Windows app. It still did not fix the problem. I uninstalled iCloud. Then I uninstalled the Extensions from Edge. Then I rebooted Windows.

I reinstalled iCloud and installed the Extensions. After completing the iCloud setup, Passwords and Keychain is still Off. I click approve and input the code from my iPhone. The screen goes away and Passwords and Keychain is still Off.

I call Apple support. He first tells me that I would need to contact Microsoft support if the app is setup correctly. I share screen with the rep. I show him everything I did. When I'm done, he drops the call and closes the screen share. Didn't say sorry I can't help you and goodbye. I guess he did that because I gave him some static earlier about me having to contact Microsoft support but it is still rude. I didn't get ugly or cuss. Apple should support their software on whatever platform they release it or don't release it on that platform. We have numerous Apple devices. We've spent a fair amount of money with them.

Does anybody have a solution for this issue? The ratings on the Microsoft app store are pretty bad. Some comments are to do with this issue.

This is not with edge only I have had the same issue with chrome and Google. I have attempted to solve this issue for two weeks and have worked with support from Microsoft Apple And Dell (my pcJ. I had some very nice people work with me until yesterday and an Apple agent was belligerent. No one will claim knowledge of the issue, however my ISP Xfinity had a post about Apple changed ICloud to a private relay where the isp address is unpublished. Xfinity has informed its customers that those clients using ICloud could incur issues. No solutions and I have worked with at least 7 “experts” to no resolution. The nasty Apple rep did relay that the reason I was not receiving the verification codes by email and had to request the 2nd verif be sent by text was due the email server wasn’t working!! I have contacted a local business I have used in the past today, they will do some research and get back to me tomorrow, let’s hope someone, anyone has an answer,,

Good Luck

I came across a comment on a Reddit post that solved my problem no thanks to Apple, Can't approve Windows PC for iCloud Passwords : r/iCloud (reddit.com).

The comment said:

Sorry for bumping an old thread. I had this problem too and for me the issue was that an approving device, ideally the iPhone, needs to be on the exact same network as the client you are trying to approve. When I VPN'd into the network that my workstation was on, I was no longer stuck in a loop. Probably a security measure to ensure you are actually the one approving it and not someone illicit forcing their way in.

Stupid Apple. We have bought a lot of products from you. I expect better service especially for the prices you charge.
