You can’t track a phone through the IMEI number. You can only use the Find My app as long as the phone is on and connected to the internet. It is very unlikely that you will be able to locate a phone from last year.

but the police can if they have the IMEI number and get a warrant to present to carriers forcing them to triangular track it, it's used in missing persons in some countries, but a very costly endeavor so doubt it have ever been used in a cold case of theft
