Audio input on Mac Studio Display repeatedly resets to low

I have an apple M1, MacBook Pro, and an Apple studio display that I purchased about a year ago… 2023. The audio input continually resets to low. I have tried hard reboot of my MacBook and of the studio monitor and it makes no difference. Really frustrating because every time I join a video call I have to remember to reset the volume. And when I forget, of course, I'm immediately told "we can't hear you". And I spent $1000 more than I had to get the studio display. Other than that, it's great, but this is really disappointing to put it mildly.
