I have followed directions that I see were other people had asked how to delete episodes of various podcasts, but the button they are suggesting, the “more” tab does not include delete episode. It has everything else, download, save, add to queue, but I can’t find delete.

It doesn't use the word "Delete." It says "Remove Download" and has a trash can icon and is in red. It is also the top item in the list after you tap the ... more icon.
Also that fact that "Download" is one of the items listed, I think would indicate that it isn't currently downloaded and therefor can't be removed.
Why can't I find the delete option for podcast episodes?
