My charger is not working so I bought a new one but the port seems to be too small. My previous charger looks smaller than the new one that goes in the port. Same 8 lines but slimmer. How do I find a new charger that I fit?

I think you mean a cable; the charger is a circuit it the phone. The power source is not a charger either; it is a power source.
If this is an older iPad it needs a USB to Lightning cable. If you search for "USB to Lightning cable” from any retailer you will get the right cable.
If it is a newer iPad it uses a USB-C cable. The contacts are not visible on a USB-C cable, they are inside the cable shell.
