I want to change my Apple ID from email to phone number
Need to change the Apple ID from email to mobile number.
details on help pages aren’t helpful. Please advise .

AFAIK, that won’t work. Per Apple: If you already have an Apple ID user name that's an email address, you might not be able to change it to a mobile phone number. However, you can associate your account with different phone numbers or email addresses on your Apple ID account page. Then, you can use those phone numbers or email addresses to sign in to your Apple ID.
