MacBook Pro stolen a few months ago and now on Facebook Marketplace

This past May 2024(almost 2 months ago) MacBook Pro was stolen off a walkway along with a bunch of other important items. The laptop had a charger and was slightly older with unique wear and tear flaws only I would recall.

on search to recover some of what was taken I found a fb post matching similar if not identical features as my MacBook Pro, battery issues noted in the description as well as battery charger I left with the device. How do I recover this item.

DoI report to the police or contact Apple? FB Seller is listing item at $125 marks down from $150.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Apple does not get involved with allegations of stolen Apple products, and does NOT maintain a registry.

Even if you enabled 'Find My Mac' and can geo-locate your device, remember that original owners have been severely injured attempting to recover devices themselves.

This job requires consultation of your local law enforcement, and they can advice you EXACTLY what to do to proceed. This could involve 'buying it back', using a traceable payment method like a check, then 'following the money' for law enforcement to charge the seller.

What Makes you so Certain this is YOUR Device?

Photos are photos --specs are specs --not that internal hardware cannot be modifies on a 2024 MacBook, because all is soldered on to the LogicBoard to operate as one device.

Use Find My: Use the Find My App to Locate a Missing Device or Item - Apple Support

If Find My was enabled with this, then you may be able to locate it there. Note that this is based off of the last time the device they were connected to was itself connected to the internet.

I provided the police with the serial number. My main concern is the other items that were with my laptop and significant amount of personal information. Phone number, email plenty of contacts. It would have been fairly easy to track me down or worst case scenario bring it to the local police department.

It’s just gone, poof, vanished. Super fast, and very odd.
