MacBook Pro 16 2019 will not allow USB connection

I'm on a MacBook Pro 16 2019 version running Sonoma 14.5. I want to connect a memory card via a USBC hub but it will not show up. I've read various questions about this issue however "allow accessories to connect" does not appear under privacy & security. Can anyone guide me on this?

Many USB-C adapters include an extra USB-C port on them for power pass through. If yours does not, I recommend getting one that does. Use the power of the computer on that USB-C pass through port.

As long as all you need is SD card capability, these two hubs are really good:

There are cheaper ones out there. The key is the USB-C is 100W PD pass through.
