Will stolen device still be trackable after a restore?

Unfortunately my 15 pro max got stolen. The thief almost immediately turned it off (or put it in airplane mode) since the Lost Mode is still showing as “pending” till this day. I left my e-sim active in the phone for the off chance they turn it ON and thus lost mode activates and at the same time I get a live location. But, I’m getting tired of waiting and I need my number transferred to my temp phone which I can easily do but at the same time this will put my phone offline for good most likely. My question is, if I the thief who has my phone chooses to DFU restore it, will the lost mode still go through after an activation attempt (which they will have to connect to wifi for)? Also, will I be able to track the phone’s location after a restore?

You will not be able to track it as it will no longer signed-in to your AppleID.

However, Activation Lock WILL prevent re-use as long as the device remains associated with your AppleID.

I would suggest deactivating the SIM soonest; else you might have YOUR phone number associated w/ criminal activity.

All onboard data is protected by your passcode so no need to fret about “remote erase”.

Your phone was stolen and you’re never getting it back. Proceed accordingly.

You can move your phone number. Even without an active SIM, your old phone cannot be put in DFU mode UNLESS you shared your Apple ID and Password as well as your Passcode.

The chances are your phone will wind up in China and taken apart for parts.

DON'T remove the phone from your Apple Device list.

Also, don't fall for scam messages, which purport to come from Apple saying your phone has been found and all you need to do is validate your sign in credentials. Apple NEVER sends such messages. Thieves do. And if you don't respond, they sometimes resort to threats, suggesting they've got your photos and will do terrible things with them or your data. IT'S a LIE, intended to scare you to comply.
