Extremely blurry screen on Macbook Pro M1

My Macbook Pro (M1) screen turned all of a sudden really blurry, almost black, and nothing seems to fix it. The only way I can use it now it with power supply and connected to an external monitor. I have macOS Sonoma 14.5 (23F79) running. It seems like that I'm not the only one having that type of issue. A lot of people online suggested it's either a software problem with the new OS or a hardware problem with the screen itself. Apple support does not really help either. They want me to pay for the service as it is out of warranty (1.2 years old). However, this is not a user issue and the problem seems be to well-known. This is just unacceptable. I just wanted to buy a iphone recently, but I guess that will not happen now.

Sounds like a Display issue...this would be hardware

This same problem happened to my MacBook M1 (and many others) in Fall 2023. There is a previous message thread with many entries if you search for "extremely blurry MacBook m1"

The only way I could use mine was with an external monitor. However, when I returned from vacation after leaving the MacBook unused for a month or so, my MacBook began working again. After 2 or 3 days, the problem returned and persisted for several months. I try it again every month or so.

Around July 4th, I noticed it was working once again. So far, it is still working properly as of July 18th (knock on wood). My M1 Max MacBook 16" (2021) is running Sonoma 14.5 (23F79) as well.

One thing that I did which may (or may not) be helping is that I changed a setting to make it hibernate each time I close the screen and restore from hibernation when I open it. I think that I used the information on this page - Is there a command that will force a MACB… - Apple Community

Good luck,

John
