I get the notification ‘Device left behind’ every time I leave the house with my iPhone 12 and Apple Watch Series 5

After updating both iphone 12 and apple watch 8 recently (6/28/24 iOS 17.5.1 and watch 10.5), I experience the message "device left behind" every time I leave home and neither phone or watch are left behind. As suggested in previous support responses, I shutdown both for an extended period and then rebooted both, but I still get the "device left behind" notification every time I leave home. Never did this before this update. It seems like most updates cause issues. The last time I updated, my battery had shorter life. Now this! Is there anything that can be done about these problems?

The other concern I have is that my apple watch does not seem to track distance when in fitness skate mode. Works great in walk, bicycle, run. Since I skate outside, I'd like it to record distance. There isn't a differentiation for inside or outside skate. In order to have it track distance, I have to use outside run mode. Is there a way to have skate mode track distance? If not, I suggest adding it.

Did you disable the separation alert in the setting for your iPhone in Find my?

Open the Find my app on your iPhone, tap on devices, choose your device, swipe up the Notifications screen, then disable "Notify When Left Behind"

I'm curious to know if your iPhone and Watch are the only devices listed in the Find My app. Perhaps you have another item that you forgot would alert you, such as Beats Stereo Buds or AirPods.

Also notice that you can leave Notify active but you can set up Secure Locations, such as your home or office, where leaving a device behind shouldn't trigger the notification.

Thank you both for your input and suggestions/advise.

You were right! I have an iPhone 6S Plus that I still use minimally and updated that device at the same time as the others. I'm assuming some of the settings were changed or reset when updated (since it wasn't an isssue prior to the update). But I have readjusted the settings and hopefully won't get false notifications anymore, we'll see.

Thanks again!
