New HomePod mini will not stop configuring

I received my brand new HomePod mini and tried adding it to my HomeKit. It updated the software and after that, spent hours configuring. I hooked it up to my Mac and have reset it to factory settings. The software updated again, because apparently the first update didn't update to the most current. I have now disconnected from my Mac and am trying to add it to my HomeKit again and it is back to the never-ending reconfiguring. The difference is I am now able to reset the HomePod whereas last time I was not. Is this a lemon or is there something else going on?
