Deleting an app from the update list results in it appearing on Home Screen, not deleted

Over the last week or so I have noticed that whenever I decide to delete an app from the list of updates, inside App Store, that it doesn’t actually delete, and afterwards appears on one of my Home Screen pages.

I often use the list of available app updates to decide whether to keep an app or not. Usually if I delete an app from the list, by swiping it to the left and then confirming, it is deleted.

Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed that, even though it appears like it has deleted, just as it has always done, in the update list, it then appears on one of my Home Screen pages, and I then delete it from there.

i haven’t noticed, or checked to see if the same thing is occurring on my iPad yet.

What I find strange is that I haven’t carried out any kind of iOS update since the day that 17.5.1 came out. So what has suddenly changed for this to start to occur?

Has anyone else noticed the same thing? And does anyone know what’s causing it and maybe how to fix it?

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 17

Yes. In the end that’s how I have to delete the app after trying to do it from the update list.

I was under the impression that we should be able to delete directly from the update list itself.

Also, I have since checked, and the same thing happens on my iPad.

Funnily enough, I had forgotten that I had already raised this and came across my original post here when searching Google for instances of this issue. I was quite surprised to see that I’d already entered it back in July.
