MacBook shows 0% charge when waking from sleep mode

Hello.

I ran into a problem. Perhaps there is a ready-made solution for this problem.

Macbook Pro A1502 (2015) OS Mojave. The problem is the following - after going to sleep, when trying to exit (opening the lid), there is zero reaction; when you press the ON button, it shows that the battery is completely discharged and you need to connect the charger. I'm connecting. It starts up immediately, the battery shows the charge as it was (30-50-80%).

Moreover, the battery charges without problems and normally in time (not in 15 minutes), discharges normally. Keeps for 5 hours and more at using, up to 100 cycles, no warnings appear.

Before the Mojave version, this Mac had Monterey. After the last update, this problem started, or at least that’s how it happened in time. But I thought maybe this was a glitch due to updates, so I tried to roll out an even older operating system out of harm’s way. No effect.

Are there any options for solving the problem without visiting services?

P.S. Resetting the SMC did not help

The Retina model laptops are a bit finicky when it comes to power & battery. @leroydouglas is most likely correct that your battery is probably starting to fail. My guess is that the Logic Board thinks the battery was disconnected for a moment which tends to trigger the red battery icon when attempting to power on the Retina laptop (the 2016+ USB-C Apple laptops are even worse in this aspect...I even suspect a Logic Board issue could be involved as well since I've seen a brand new OEM battery have the same issue).

The OS would not be the cause of the problem. At best it would be related to a system firmware update.

FYI, the battery cycle count is irrelevant for judging battery health except when it is nearing 1,000 cycles which would indicate it is near its end of life. The age of the battery is more important since many batteries start to wear out & fail between 3 - 5 years.

Your screenshot is for a MacBook from 2013, mine is from 2015
And now if i open the system settings, it suggests updating to Monterey 12.7.4

Thanks for the clarification— what I saw was "MacBook Pro 13″ in your byline above...

yes this is why that A1502 is not the best way to describe the machine.

Battery Health Management was introduced with Catalina 10.15.5 and works on your Mac with a T2 chip

I would get current on the macOS 12.7.5 (May 13, 2024) for bugs fixes, security updates, OS refinements ...

and compare your results.

Thanks for the advice. I wrote that this version was previously installed on this device. As far as I remember, I updated the system from 12.7.4 (apparently to 12.7.5) and this problem started (perhaps it is not related, it just coincided). That's why I wrote about the fact that I suspect problems with the updated version and therefore decided to install the second version, which is getting older.

Nevertheless, it is necessary to try this idea and install something newer, for example, Ventura.

You have an old Mac and old battery it is quite possible the battery is on its way out.

and I might suspect a "coincided" yes as you suggest blaming a macOS update...

replacement batteries are not of the same quality as the OEM batteries that shipped with your mac when new.

macOS Monterey is still supported and a 12.7.6 is bound to follow in due time.

It would only be a problem if you were trying to power on the laptop with the charger while the battery was at 0%.

You may also find the battery draining even if the power adapter is connected if the workload is more than the power adapter can compensate. Otherwise the power adapter can charge the laptop while it is off or sleeping or possibly when performing light workloads.
