Last saved file is grayed out in file open window, when trying to open it in another app

When I save a new file and try to open it in another app (eg to upload it) the file shows as grayed out until I close and reopen the 'open file' window. This has been like this for a while and is very annoying. Does anyone know if this is a bug, if there is a fix?

FYI, I just recently encountered the light gray file names in the Finder after downloading several files from a browser. The files were gray for several days. When I went to investigate using the command line to gather information about one of the files, I discovered the files had just turned back to normal -- light gray color was gone on all those other files. It was very strange. This happened on macOS Ventura. I had seen this occur previously, but the file name color changed on its on....almost seemed like the system was slow to process the downloaded files. I had seen other reports on this forum where people were mentioning having file names in light gray after downloading. I'm still unclear on why. I do not use any cloud file syncing services.

hi, Txs for your reply.

it happens with eg:

  • exporting a file from Sketch or photoshop, to a png or jpg. I then want to use it in an online editor or upload it to we transfer or similar and the file is only available when I close and reopen the file open window. This also happens when opening that file in other apps. Eg Photoshop.
  • exporting a video from Final Cut to compressor and let the batch run. When the file is ready, opening the file in finder opens the old version of the render. (this file has the same name as the previous version, maybe they is the reason for this type of error, but it seems to me finder should show the latest version if they file when it is updated.)

I will upload a screen capture and the exact flow it is related to, when it happens today.

I am not sure when this started. I remember it started around the time I upgraded to Sonoma, and thinking: oh, a bug. It will be fixed in the next update. But it is not :)

Is there any update? I have the same issue ever since I'm using macOS (about 2020) and I'm regularly updating.

I encounter the issue every single time when I create something in photoshop and want to upload it on via Chrome. It's always greyed out, but when I reopen it, it's "clickable".

Thank you for any support as I would really like to fix this too.
