How to paste text automatically formatted for dark mode

I am running iOS 17.5.1, and my Notes app is configured for dark mode.

Whenever I paste in text to a new note (e.g., from my Gmail, which I check from the Apple Mail app, which is also in dark mode), I get black text with a white background.

I would prefer that the pasted text be white on a black background (just like it would be if I opened a new note and started typing).

I tried selecting the text in Notes so that I could change it, but I don't see any options for changing/reversing the font foreground and background colors.

I'll include screenshots, so you can see what I mean.

• The email (which is exactly what I want it to look like in Notes -- white text on black background)

• What it looks like in Notes - Dark Mode (black text on white background)

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. There must be a straightforward way to change the font formatting in Notes, or better yet, have it paste by default with font foreground and background colors that are appropriate for dark mode.

While in dark appearance mode on iOS 17.5.1, I can copy text from Apple Mail and paste it into Notes. It comes off the clipboard as white text on a black background as one would expect.

Apple applications take note of the current appearance mode when placing content on the iOS clipboard and Gmail isn't designed in the same manner — placing the wrong content to the clipboard that is unaware of the current appearance mode. Thus, you get that black text on a white background. There is no fix as long as you do this with Gmail.
