Driver for a Samsung ML-1640 laserprinter with new MacStudio M2

In Systems>Printers> I added my Samsung ML-1640, there is a green light and 'inactive'.

When I print a Word document the green light on ML-1640 is blinking a few times but nothing is happening.

What should I do to get the ML-1640 printing??

Mac Studio, macOS 14.5

What kind of driver are you using for this printer?

A Samsung ML-1640 Series 1.03.0 driver is listed in the Printer and scanner drivers for Mac article found via Samsung Printer Drivers v2.6 for OS X - Apple Support. The problem is that this driver is for older Mac operating systems only.

Matti Haveri has described a workaround that reportedly works with some models and systems.

There may be alternative ways as well (such as checking whether the latest Samsung universal printer driver somehow could be used, or testing a Linux print server with AirPrint-like capabilities), but that would all be experimental.

Thank you for the information.

Unfortunately, probably only a few have this particular combination of computer and printer. If you cannot find a direct solution, it may be necessary to look for some kind of workaround.

Do you still have the 2017 iMac? If so, you may want to investigate whether that Mac could share the USB printer.

Share your printer on Mac – Apple Support (UK)

If normal printer sharing is not possible, you could perhaps carry out a few experiments with a third-party app like Printopia (https://www.decisivetactics.com/products/printopia/) on the iMac in order to at least try to print from an iPhone or iPad (whether this somehow could be extended to involving a Mac Studio as well is another matter).

For experiments with a standalone Raspberry Pi (Linux) print server:

Thanks for your reply.

I tried the above but it didn't work.

With my Imac 27 inch 2017, which I replaced with a MacStudio M2 a week ago, it worked by using the Pacifist2 programme. But not with the Mac Studio M2.

Anyone has a solution??

It is a shame to be unable to use my Samsung ML-1640 with my MacStudio M2. The ML-1640 maybe old but not used often but still a perfect laserprinter
