Use Apple TV 4k on Sony Bravia model KDL-50W790B

because Netflix announced they will not support Apple TV 3rd generation and older.

I think Apple’s unfortunate naming convention may have caused some confusion here.

Netflix has announced to end support for the legacy 2012-2013 models Apple TV and older.

The current 4K models are fully supported.

Apple TV (1st generation) [A1218] (2007) — was never supported by Netflix.

Apple TV (2nd generation) [A1378] (2010) — supported by Netflix until July 31, 2024.

Apple TV (3rd generation) [A1427 or A1469] (2012–2013) — supported by Netflix until July 31, 2024.

Apple TV HD (4th generation) [A1625] (2015) — fully supported by Netflix.

Apple TV 4K (1st generation) [A1842] (2017) — fully supported by Netflix.

Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) [A2169] (2021) — fully supported by Netflix.

Apple TV 4K (3rd generation)* [A2737 or A2843] (2022) — fully supported by Netflix.

*currently sold as new.

On that old a TV you need an Apple TV box and a subscription to Netflix. If you already have a Netflix subscription then you will need to log into your Netflix account, if that does not work then you may need to unsubscribe from Netflix and then re-subscribe. You can then use the Apple TV 4K to access Netflix and many other apps, such as Paramount +, Disney +, MAX, Prime, etc... most of which are paid subscriptions.
