How to print on letter size paper on a Mac?

Each week I convert a pdf document to Word where it is edited. I then click: File and then Print...just to see what the layout is going to be. It is always on legal size paper. There must be simple way to get it to print on letter size paper. I do not know my way around the 'print' settings.
