Do I need anti virus? I consider myself to have some common sense. I had an older iMac and switched to a PC when it died, solely for economic reasons. Hated Windows after using Safari for so many years. After my affair with the Dark Side, I regretted my decision and came back to the new iMac a few months ago. My Norton 360 is due to renew shortly. Should I lose the subscription and save $150. I guess my ultimate question is: do I need 3rd party security software, and if so, what do you, my fellow Apple fans, recommend?

Nope! You should never install:

Cleaners
Optimizers
AntiVirus
VPN

And I would add to the great advice so far...

Norton would be my very last choice if I needed such SW.
