No. Face ID was NEVER intended to be the only way to unlock an iPhone. You MUST use (and remember) a Passcode as well. For example, if you power off your iPhone, update your iPhone, Force Restart your iPhone, you will be required to enter the Passcode you created to unlock it the first time. It would be really bad if Face ID was the only means to get back into an iPhone. If the True Depth camera malfunctioned and could no longer recognize your face, it would be make it impossible to unlock the phone.
