Yellow Screen of Death iPhone 13 Pro Max (w/ Cracked Screen)
I have read threads regarding to this issue and everyone had their fair share of experience on how they were able to get a repair cost waiver from Apple. Unfortunately I haven't seen a reply or thread explaining whether someone had tried to request a repair cost waiver with a cracked phone screen.
Now here is my case, I have my phone cracked for about more than a year now but I have no complaints since every touch was still functioning very well, the touch, the LCD. It's just recently that I experienced the Yellow screen of death, hence here I am raising this concern.
So my goal is to have this issue repaired regardless of the cracked screen that I have on my phone and still be able to request a repair cost waiver. Now the only problem here is that the procedure of the fix is to change the LCD and change it to a new one.
I have tried to contact apple and ask for better assistance (since Apple support in my country, PH, takes a lot of time). I requested a call, which they did, and gave me instructions as to what to do. Here are the steps:
- They booked me an appointment to an Apple Service Center (of my choice) near me, and to which I went.
- I went to the Apple Service Center from my area and told me that most likely Apple would not be able to fix it for free since I have a crack on the LCD of my phone (and for some reason, they're trying to point it out that it's because of the crack that is why i'm experiencing the yellow screen of death).
- Whilst there, I called back Apple Customer Support since they told me to call them while i'm there so that they would be able to assist me and tell me what to say to the Service Center, but customer support put me on hold for like 10mins as they had no answer to my inquiry on what to do and what to say. So I hung up the call.
- The service there told me that "Most likely Apple won't be able to fix this for free since you have a crack on your phone, and they only consider fixing free ones whose screens are in good condition. But we will still try and let them assess on this situation, but most likely they won't. If Apple would agree, the diagnostics (which costs, $25) and repair (lcd replacement, $400) would be of free of charge. But if not, you will have to shoulder all of the expense."
- So I went on and agreed for the diagnostics and hopefully get Apple's consideration.
- Desperate for more clarifications and assurance that I want my phone to be fixed with no cost, I tried contacting Apple Support again through chat, but to no avail, I got no re-assurance and just booked me for another call with a "Senior Advisor".
I guess my whole point of this issue, is why do we have to pay something that isn't our fault? I am so happy for people who were able to get there issues fixed for free since the conditions of there phones are still good. But what about for people like us who have "fought battles" over the years and had our phones cracked? Regardless of what reason, my phone was still working very well despite it aesthetically unpleasant, but those are scars of yesterday. I don't care if I still have my cracked screen, just fix the issue without me paying a cent just because of the incompetent nature of this issue. Final note, i'm out of warranty and have not purchased apple care.
P.S.
The only problem I have with this post is that I wasn't able to take a photo of my phone while having the yellow screen.
