Selecting new key photo on a Live Photo causes it to automatically zoom I.

When I try selecting a new key photo it zooms in and completely distorts the image. I just bought a iPhone 15 after having a iPhone 8 for years. Was never a problem with my iPhone 8. The iPhone 15 cameras auto processing and auto zoom is worse than that of the iPhone 8. I have seen people complaining about this since 2019 with no answers. I’m so frustrated I bought this phone two days ago and my iPhone 8 was way better. How to fix this auto zoom in problem when selecting new key photo?

Photos will also zoom in, when we add a Live Effect to the photo.

It should not happen, if you are keeping the iPhone on a tripod, when you are taking the Live Photo. It is a bit difficult to hold the iPhone very still for three seconds. With a hand-held camera the image will move slightly up and down, and when we apply a Live Effect, Photos has to stabilise the clip, and that will require cropping to a section of the video, that is shown in all frames.

If you select a new key photo, it has to be picked from the video clip, which may be dancing up and down and is having a lesser resolution than the still frame, that has a very good resolution.

I see that it zooms by a few pixels-- I had to do it a few times to be sure. Is that what you mean? I'm can't think of why it would do that. The little bit of zoom I saw (I'm using a 12 pro) didn't bother me, but I can see how it might. If this is what you see, then you should let Apple know here:

I see what you’re saying thank you, but unfortunately I don’t have a tripod and it happens even when I hold still for selfies with my friends in group shot. It’ll be waist up and then selecting a new key photo will crop it to chest up. I feel as if it made the Live Photo option obsolete when the iPhone 8 never cropped it.

yes correct, it ends up bothering me cause it’ll cut off parts of the picture I want included, say example below knees in a group shot. I will leave a feedback thank you
