Why does apple not allow you to turn down or mute the person on facetime or voice calls?

Iv always wondered why apple has never decided to add a feature where you could mute the persons voice who you are on the phone with so that you can hear your phone more clearly and or have a adjustment slider for facetime to lower the calls voice and also be able to change your phones volume too however you preferer. personally I think its a great idea
