How can I transfer songs from my Mac to iPhone without Apple Music?

Is there a way to load songs that I have on my Mac onto my iPhone? I see where I can sync all my music if I have an Apple Music subscription, but I don't have one and don't want one. I just want to add to Music on the iPhone some music that I already own that is on my Mac. I don't see a way to air drop or other share, or to load from one device to the other.

If you don't have or want an Apple Music subscription, you can sync directly over USB through Finder.
