iphone 8 plus upgrades 2024

I've been told by Apple 'Genius' that my iPhone 8 Plus won't get upgrades into 2025 and apps like WhatsApp won't work so no point renewing battery. Any views on this? Thanks

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 16

Tha last update for the iPhone 8 was iOS 16.7.8. That was a security release in May, 2024 for both iOS 15 and 16. Apple typically does security updates for the current iOS and two prior iOS..

The iPhone 8 may get some more security releases in the future but it won't get any regular updates

It did not get iOS 17.0 which was released in September of 2023 and won't get iOS 18 which is expected this fall. WhatsApp currently requires iOS 12 or later but they could change their requirements at any point.

A battery replacement is $69 if done by Apple in the U.S. so it's a question of whether you want to invest another $69 in the phone and get some more use out of it until you actually reach the point when an app you want can't be installed or until a lack of security releases bothers you.

I don't think there's a wrong answer either way you decide.
