Scanning from touchpad on HP 7955e to MacBook Pro

Hi all!

So, I've been doing a dance with HP on being able to use my printer's touchpad to scan something, but to no avail. When I do, it says that this feature is not available, and that I have to use their crappy app. Is there a workaround on this? I know that I had a 9000 series HP a couple of years ago, and it was hit and miss to do this function.

If there isn't a workaround what brand printer is the best that will play nice with my MacBook Pro?

Thanks!

They would have to make and you would have to install a system modification that would sense and respond to the button press on the device. There is nothing built into macOS to detect a button press on a device.

Any device will require some sort of system modification to get that functionality.

The closest thing I can think of is sharing out a folder from your Mac over SMB (File Sharing) and the device being able to connect to that share and save the scan to that location. I don't know if that exists on any device.

But, I have little faith that a printer manufacture could produce that capability without it being failure prone.

I guess a third option would be a device with a storage slot for some type of memory card. It would work like a camera where it wrote the files to the memory stick and you could then transport that to the computer when you finished scanning.
