Double-spacing won't save in .doc & .docx files

No matter what software program I use, no .doc or .docx file i create will save with double line spacing, making it impossible to create APA-style papers for college. No combination makes it work. Software includes MS Word, Word cloud-based, Docs, NeoOffice, etc, etc. Nothing. I double-space the document, it prints to pdf as double spaced; however, the course MANDATES that the file be saved in MS docx file type. No luck no matter what. Brand new studio machine running Sonoma 14.5. Please help.

I am using MS Word v16.87 on Sonoma 14.5. I select the document content and change the line spacing to 2.0, then save the document as a .docx. Apple's Quick Look view of that document does not reflect the double spacing and it will appear single-spaced. That is also true for the same .docx content saved from Pages, or LibreOffice 24.2.5.

If you based the failure to double-space on the Quick Look view, I can assure you that the documents when opened in any of the above applications will retain their double-spaced text as originally saved.

You'll need to learn how to use styles in Word. Define a style for your content. I recommend creating a new style instead of trying to use or change the built-in styles. Create a paragraph style and set the line spacing to 2 lines.

As you add text, you will likely lose the styles with copy/paste etc. Don't worry about that. Don't try to fix it. It's easier to just select a paragraph and re-apply the style.

If you do this right, you'll have styles for content and all header levels. Then you can easily create a table of contents.

I am starting to think you are right, but I have no way to verify it. Do you realize what you are saying? Indeed, the document is formatted in the software correctly; print to pdf and all is well. Then when save as a document, using any software, and it appears single space -- but only in Quick Look. .... How can I confirm, so that I can UPVOTE you !

It is the cloud version of MS Word, and yes, when I save it, the document is double spaced; when I open it back up, it is still double spaced. Yet when you go to the document in Finder, and hit the space bar, the Quick Look opens it and it is single spaced. Which one do you believe? If professor will fail you bc it is not conforming to APA7, are you willing to risk an "F"? How do we get Quick Look fixed -- if that is the problem, and it seems to be....
