2020 iMac fans running and wont fully shut down - kernel_task 1000%+

2020 iMac i7 Sonoma 14.5 with OWC 16TB and 20TB external drives connected. This has been my setup since purchasing new and only for the past few months have I noticed the restart issue but in the past two weeks I have noticed the fans coming on very often. I am not doing anything intensive on this computer despite the storage. I do use Lightroom and Photoshop but haven't in a few weeks (and when I did the fans never came on).

Just today (and first time ever), kernel_task using over 1000% of my CPU!...I was leading a Teams call and had to hand it over as it looked like I was operating from a 1998 Windows ME computer...slow and choppy and this iMac has been a speed demon for years. So strange all of this seems to be happening at once with no changes or additions on my end.

I have performed SMC and NVRAM reset multiple times but on restart or shut down I get a "didnt shut down properly" message after it boots back up. What should I check? Apple ruled out hardware and suggested a service appt but I think you guys can resolve this!

Here is my EtreCheck report, too.

Start with this...

Delete these files & restart...

/Library/LaunchAgents/com.logitech.manager.daemon.plist

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.bluejeansnet.BlueJeansMenu.plist

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.bluejeansnet.BlueJeansHelper.plist

~ tilde indicates your home folder

Apple hid the Users' Library folders...

Method 1:

1 From the Finder, select the Go menu at top of the screen, and choose Go to Folder.

2 In the window that opens, enter ~/Library, and click Go.

Or…

Use the Command-Shift-period

Odd behavior started a few days ago after I plugged in a USB card reader. A literal freeze up of everything and about 20 secs later the system reboots and provides this error to report or ignore. Any ideas?
