Mac keeps pausing HP prints

Here's a possible solution for anyone dealing with the issue here with the same title (which is now locked, so I'm creating a new post here). This specific problem:

• MacOS is connected to the printer (HP Color LaserJet MFP M476nw, in my case) and can see that it's online (and can even see the ink levels), but...
• Whenever you try to print something, the printer shown in the print queue immediately goes into "paused" mode.
• You can un-pause it, but it immediately pauses again.
• Printing from your phone works!

The solution for me was to remove the printer from settings and add it again BY IP ADDRESS (or hostname). To do that:

1. Find out what the IP address of your printer is (in the printer's menu). Or optionally, get its hostname (like from your WiFi router).
2. Click "Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax..." from MacOS's System Settings, Printers & Scanners.
3. In the window that pops up, click on the "IP" tab at the top of the window. MAKE SURE IT'S THE "IP" TAB.
4. In the "Address", put the IP address you looked up earlier. (Or if you looked up the hostname and prefer to use that, use "HOSTNAME.local". For example, "NPX6E387F.local".)
5. In the "Name" field, put whatever you want to call it. (I just copied the name it would have used from the Default tab.)
6. Click "Add".
7. If you haven't already, you can remove the other printer (that wasn't working) from the printer settings, assuming the new setting works.

Hopefully that works for you.

I have no idea if this is an issue with my Wifi network, a MacOS bug, an HP driver bug (but this happened with 2 different drivers), or what. I've tried restarting computers (same problem on another Mac), the network, updating the printer driver, and other things. But connecting by IP is the only thing that worked so far.

Anyway, at least this workaround worked for me.
