I am facing this same issue. HomePod version is 17.6 and it’s still asking me to update. I can’t set any alarms from my home app on iPhone or iPad and I have to use Siri every time. This issue is annoying me for weeks and I hoped it would fix by itself

I was facing the same issue. Upgrading to 18.0 did not seem to fix the issue (on both my phone and HomePods). What did eventually fix it for me:

I went to my Home app then tapped on (…) > Home Settings > Home Hubs and Bridges to see what home hubs were listed and restarted every single one of those in fast succession (no idea if that matters). After the HomePod with the alarms not showing was restarted (and the connected hub had moved along to another hub) it seemed to do the trick to allow me to view the alarms.

No idea why it worked, but it did. My Apple TV is running 17.6.1 so maybe there is something weird there about a fragmented set of home hubs? Maybe something got cached and stuck in one of the hubs and restarting cleared it out? Maybe the offending HomePod had a cache that was cleared when it connected to a new home hub? I don’t know. 🤷‍♂️ But this worked for me. Good luck to anyone still suffering from this!

It should be on OS 17.6 The HomePod would show a little download icon on the HomePod tile in the Home App if it’s requiring an update. This latest update was in the last week.

Test if asking Siri on HomePod lets you set an alarm

Try closing the Home App and restarting the device to see if this refreshes the App.

See if restarting the HomePod fixes the error it’s giving you

Check that your iOS device is not set to use a private address on your local network. See Use private Wi-Fi addresses on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support. Using the option on your own Wi-Fi network may limit the traffic allowed between your devices. At present editing alarms is only allowed when both devices are on the same local network with peer-to-peer communications. I believe iOS 18 may remove this limitation, allowing you to edit alarms on your HomePods wherever you happen to be. This message may be related to that upcoming change.

I wonder if it’s requiring you to Upgrade to the new Home architecture if you haven’t already done so? This would require the device you’re using the Home App on to be updated to the latest OS. Do keep in mind: Any device that is connected to an upgraded home and not running the latest software will lose access to the home until the device is updated. This includes people that you invite to control your home. An older device that’s stuck on iOS 15, for example, loses the ability to AirPlay to a HomePod as well. I believe you need at least iOS 16.2 to keep access to the Home App/HomeKit & AirPlay following this upgrade. For a Mac it’s macOS Ventura or later.

How you access alarms has changed. You just tap on the HomePod icon in the home app.

I had the same issue and turns out Apple pushed out 17.x.x and 18.x.x at the same time. If you updated your devices go back and double check they are on 18.0. The devices automatically update to the next version in this case version 17.x.x. You will need to update again to 18.x.x version. Once I did this everything started working again including Stereo Pairs.
