iPad freezes on certain gestures

After the latest Software Update, my iPad has been repeatedly freezing on certain gestures. This includes Slide Over, closing applications that have recently received an input (keyboard typing, tapping, etc.), and even watching videos. My main thought is mainly because of the Video Player / Background Music Player, the one found on the top right of the Control Center.

This problem persists specifically on the YouTube application, as trying to open YouTube only results in having many grey rectangles in place of the thumbnails. Opening a video will procure to the normal video viewing screen, but immediately freeze before anything can be loaded.

Is this a software problem or a hardware problem?
