Icloud drive on PC is suddenly empty

Set up an icloud drive on my PC yesterday and synced around 18k photos (81Gb) to the drive. All fine tho it took a while. Today I looked through the drive and decided to copy some videos on the drive to a specific folder for use in an editing app. Switched to Explorer tab, set up the new folder on the same HD, switched back to icloud drive - and there's nothing there. Empty. Everything is still in iCloud.com and on my phone; but nothing in the drive. That took about three hours to sync yesterday. What am I missing here?

PS I hate all this 'cloud' stuff so deff not an expert.
