Is Corel Painter 2023 compatible with an iMac M3 running macOS Sonoma 14.1.2?

Has anyone successfully used Corel Painter 2023 on an iMac M3 with macOS Sonoma 14.1.2? Would it work if I install Rosetta 2? I need a copy of Corel Painter installed on my iMac M3 to be able to open my .rif files with notes. Thanks.

Happy to report that I just successfully installed the Painter 2023 trial version on my iMac M3 running macOS Sonoma 14.1.2. Although I've only played around with the brushes so far, everything feels smooth and comfortable. Also, Corel support has confirmed they’re still in the process of testing Painter 2023 with M3 chips on both Sonoma and Sequoia.

A big thank you to everyone for your feedback!

From Corel and regarding Corel Painter 2023

This website maybe a reasonable start to check if an Application maybe compatible.

Though, it is only a collection from users  experiences.

It is not a definitive answer and it is better to check with the Developer for full details

You are welcome

Rosetta 2 is a Go Between for Third Party Applications that contain Only Intel Binaries and some Third Party Application that may contain Both Universal and Intel Binaries

As mentioned earlier, all Apple Computers that are Apple Silicon ARMs based computers M1,M2, M3 do not require Installing a Standalone installer of Rosetta 2

For further details please refer to below

If you need to install Rosetta on your Mac

Rosetta 2 is only available on Apple Computer with the Silicon M1 / M2 / M3 Computers.

There are three categories / types of software that can run on the Operations System.

Only Intel Binary Code. This software will invoke Rosetta 2 to translate the Intel binaries so the operating system can understand and execute the Application. The Applications must be 64 Bit to function on Big Sur, Monterey and Ventura / Sonoma

Universal Binary Software.  It contains Both Intel and M1/ M2 / M3 ARMs binary code and refer to (  Universal 2 ) When the user installs a 64 bit Application that contains Both Intel and M1 / M2/ M3  ARMs binaries - depending on factors, the Operating System may or may not invoke Rosetta 2.

“ Apple Silicon “ Checking in System Information >> Applications  >> as of now, only see One Application classified as Apple Silicon and that is “ Rosetta 2 Updater “.

That would make perfect sense since. It is specifically designed to operate only on Apple Silicon M1 / M2 / M3 ARMs based computers

Thank you for your reply. I found a few threads about incompatibility with M1 and M2, but found nothing about M3. I wonder if anyone has been using it successfully and if natively or with Rosetta 2. Haven't found anything online. Corel Support said that version 2023, which is the latest and it is a bit old, has not been tested on a M3 yet.

One, the current version of Sonoma last long passed version " 14.1.2 "

We are currently running Sonoma 14.5

Keep your Mac up to date

About the security content of macOS Sonoma 14.5

Always make a Time Machine Backup  before doing any upDates

Secondly - Rosetta 2 is available to all M1, M2 and M3 Application Silicon Computers

One does not normally have to manually update Rosetta 2 and is often Automatically updated by Apple during updates to Sonoma

Which is suggested be be done to iron out an Bugs in Sonoma as well as to patch any Security Issue

Thank you so much PRP_53.

I chose not to update Sonoma14.1.2 after browsing around and reading that Corel Painter 2023 would probably work better with older macOS versions. M1 may work, as for M2 not sure, and M3 I found nothing. Some of my artists' friends don't want to install Rosetta 2 due to slow down the computer. But, I am not seeing another way.
