How to fix display problems with HANNS•G HL193 monitors on Mac mini?

The second monitor I connect to my M1 Mac mini 2020 (MacOS Sonoma) is blank and the first monitor flashes the display on and off but does not flash the desktop display on the first monitor. How do I fix that. For the first monitor I use a USBC from a Thunderbolt port to a VGA adapter. For the second monitor I use a HDMI to VGA adapter to the HDMI on the mini. Both monitors are HANNS•G HL193.

These look like monitors better suited for ancient Macs and PCs than for modern Macs.

B&H Photo Video – Hanns.G HL193ABB Widescreen LCD Monitor with LED Backlight (18.5") (No Longer Available)

These days, third-party monitors are typically 24" 1920x1080, 27" 2560x1440, or 27"–32" 3840x2160 ones. Good ones will have IPS panels, 178-degree viewing angles, and near-100% coverage of sRGB (at a minimum).

These Hanns monitors have a 18.5" diagonal and 1366x768 pixel resolution. I believe at one time there were many cheap 720p HDTV sets that used that resolution, which is just a tad greater than 720p. The "wide" viewing angle is only 160 degrees, and there is no mention of IPS or of near-100% coverage of sRGB (usually a bad sign). There do not seem to be any video input ports other than a single VGA port.
