How to optimise speeds with my 4TB WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe SSD on MacBook Pro M3 Max?

I have a brand new MBP M3 Max running a Satechi m.2 enclosure with a 4TB WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe SSD. TB4 cable and nothing else. I am getting maximum speeds of 1100 & 950 when I should be getting around 3000 & 3000. I’ve searched all these forums and there are a number of issues with drives unmounting etc but I can’t find anything relating to this. Anyone have any suggestions?

There are not really a lot of pervasive issues around this, except one.

When you connect a slower peripheral first, the port may downshift to accommodate the slower device. When changing up to a faster device in the same port, you occasionally have to do something extraordinary (like a Restart) to get it back to fast.

An update to this.

I added a CalDigit powered TB4 Hub and plugged the drive to that and it then recognised as a TB4 connection. Unplugged it and then put it in another TB4 port on the MBP and now get the same result. This issue is obviously an Apple TB4/USB4 Bus connection issue. Any suggestions?

Wow that’s extraordinary. I’m not sure that I tried a slower device but in theory, that seems like the case. The system is showing that the connected device is running at 40Gbps now. I have 2 drives plugged in, a Sandisk portable that runs at 10Gbps and the M.2 which is now running at 30Gbps.

Right out of the box. Tried Exfat APFS, multiple cables. Same result
