Printer Offline with Sonoma 14.5
I have had a problem with my printer being offline whenever I try to print a document. Reading several posts with the same issue, it doesn't appear to be specific to any one printer manufacturer. In fact, I was so frustrated that I went out and purchased a new HP Officejet 9730E and still had the same problem. I followed all the tips from the Apple Community as well as from other searches. Even to the point of resetting my print system in Sonoma as suggested from Apple support, Nothing worked and after resetting the print system I could not even add the printer because the OS could not find or discover it over WiFi.
At that point I thought about it more and figured maybe this is a networking issue. I turned off my router and restarted it. At that point my iMac discovered the printer and I was able to set it up.
Since I was now sure this was a network issue I discovered that certain devices (printers, scanners, servers, etc.) need to have a static IP address to function. This was an easy task for me since my Google router is controlled through an App. Other routers may need to be accessed through the IP address. Once I assigned a static IP address to the printer, I have not had any more issues with the printer being offline.
Again, this is not a OS problem, it is a networking issue with DHCP assigning IP Addresses dynamically. You need a static IP.
This seems to have fixed it for me. Hopefully the issue remains forever solved.
