I want to change my last name on my apple id account not just DISPLAY name. I am able to change the display name, but my apple ID still says my old last name. Can't seem to figure this out.

I can see how that would be annoying!
Open the Contacts app. At the top it should show My Card. Tap on it and edit it.
Also, do a search in Contacts for the wrong name; if you find any entries, fix them.
When you open Settings, what name shows at the top? If it is wrong, tap on it, then Personal Information, then Name and fix it.

Log in to https://appleid.apple.com.
What “stuff” are you sending, and using what app? If you mean tigraphics225, that is your screen name, and it is what is displayed when you send stuff in this forum. If you want to change that I can let the forum hosts know and they can contact you.
If you mean somewhere else (texts, email, WhatsApp, FaceBook, FB Messenger, Signal, Telegram, Google Meet, Zoom, etc) you change your name in the settings for each app.
It displays my married name 'horodowicz' but i am divorced with my name change. For example when i send a message it still displays my married name instead of the 'betz' name :) see attached :) thanks for your help.

please read my question again. this does not help. I already tried that. I can change my edit info name but not the name it displays when i send stuff. There's a difference.

I don’t blame you! It may be necessary to make the same changes on your Mac. I’m not sure.
