How do I connect a lightning female to ucbc male adapter to my macbook?

The Apple USB-C to Lightning Adapter seems to be made for the purpose of plugging Lightning accessories into USB-C-equipped iPhones and iPads. Apple does not mention any Macs in the Compatibility part of the adapter's description.
