Hi, on my iphone 14 (per suggestion of Wired article), I cleared most of my cache (unsupervised!)
Now I can’t get gmail on my phone, & perhaps relatedly, gmail (on firefox), sometimes gives error code 403 or 404 on my non-apple laptop!
Truly appreciate any help, thanks kindly!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by your non-Apple laptop, however, if that problem is also affecting a Windows PC then I doubt whatever you did with your iPhone was related to it. Follow those two Apple Support documents and let us know what you determine.
For future reference, in case it matters, the correct way to clear cookies and other data from Safari on an iPhone is to follow these instructions: Clear the history, cache, and cookies from Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Doing that will not cause the http 403 / 404 errors (forbidden / page not found, respectively).
