Airpod Pro 1st generation and AirPod Pro 2nd generation CHARGING

I have AirPods Pro 1st generation but the case is faulty but the actual AirPods are ok; they just won’t charge or pair. Apple can sell me a brand new case for circa £79. My question is if I buy brand new AirPods Pro 2nd generation, can I still keep and charge the 1st generation AirPods in the AirPods Pro 2nd generation case? Thank you ;0)
