How to remove ugly 2-1/2 inch black line at bottom?

I just bought an M2 iPad Air and on every screen from every app this line appears. On text displays it covers a line or two of text. In images, it ruins the image by covering the lower part. It interferes with info at the bottom of screenshots. It even causes my keyboard to lift 1/4", masking whatever text I'm writing at the end of a page. I assumed when I bought my iPad that I'd be getting the full 6-1/8" of screen display (landscape mode), not a display that lops 1/4" of usable space at the bottom.

So, what recourse do I have? What setting or other tool is available to remove this artifact from my screen?

Thanks for any assistance.

The "black line" to which you refer is the Home Bar. The Home Bar is an intentional feature of the iPadOS User Interface (UI) - and is present on all iPad models that lack a physical Home button.

The Home Bar is a "handle". If you touch and hold the Home Bar - and slide your finger to the right or left - you can switch between open App windows.

This control can be suppressed by App Developers - but cannot be hidden by the User via iPad settings.

Apple does invite submission of constructive comments and feature requests via its Product Feedback portal. For iPad and iPadOS:

Feedback - iPad - Apple

If you would like to see more control of this feature in a future version of iOS/iPadOS, this would be the most appropriate channel through which to make your request.

Thank you for your detailed and very helpful reply.

I have to wonder, though, how users have reacted to it (pos or neg).

I'll learn to live with it.

All the best,

Tod

For some odd reason I'm never able to send replies to answers when using my iPad. I always get an error message to the effect that I'm signed out even if I've just signed in seconds before sending the reply. <shrug>
