Conditional ‘if’ formulas - Numbers.

Hi,

I’m doing finances on numbers and I have 2 sheets.

One is my budget and the other is transactions. It’s the standard preset but I’ve made a few adjustments here and there.

I want to set up a Cell, D, so that if I define a transaction in column A as ‘spending’ from a drop down menu, it subtracts the corresponding figure in column B from Cell C and displays the remaining amount in Cell D

I’ve done it when needing to ‘add’ figures like this using ‘SUMIF’ but I can’t find one for subtracting.

Help me please.

From your description it seems you are using the 'Personal Budget' templated but have modified it.

Could you post a screenshot? (shift-command-4, select area with cross-hairs, release, start new post here and use the mountains-and-moon 'Image insertion' icon beneath the compose window to attach the screenshot image from the Desktop.)

Keep in mind that you might be able to simplify the structure by using positive for 'spending' and negative for 'income' (or vice versa), but the best approach depends on the specifics of what you are trying to do.
