149$ on Lost and Theft Claim! Not informed!

I gifted my son an iPhone 15 128GB, which he lost a few days ago. I had purchased AppleCare+ to make it easier to get a replacement device. I paid $220 for this AppleCare, and now I'm being informed by their claims department that I have to pay an additional $149 for the replacement! This is misleading. The sales representatives never mentioned this, and the AppleCare agreement I received doesn't mention it either unless you log in to a link at the bottom of the receipt and navigate through a 17-page agreement where the fee is buried on the 13th page!

How can they sell an agreement without disclosing these hidden costs and then demand additional payment later?

This is totally unfair, and I need a solution.

First, you have posted to a user-to-user site. We are all users here just like you. No one here will be able to help you. Complaining to us will not help your cause.

You might want to review the details of the program to confirm that there is indeed a $149 fee or deductible for a claim......which is clearly stated on the first page of the document in very visible form.

So you're upset because you didn't do the necessary research to understand the costs for replacement if you make a claim. Sorry, but that's on you. The plan costs for replacement were easily found from Apple and here is a link you could have easily seen if you wanted to know what you were paying for --> AppleCare Products - iPhone - Apple

There were NO hidden costs. You simply didn't do any research. This is a user to user only forum. I'm afraid the sympathy you are seeking, is most unlikely going to be shared with you. To think there would be absolutely no cost for replacement was an unfortunate assumption. But you have to admit the cost to replace your sons iPhone with the insurance is far less costly than buying a new iPhone. As is the case with just about every insurance plan out there, there is a deductible for making a claim. I think $149 to get a replacement iPhone 15 is pretty reasonable, to be honest.

Thank you, Bob and Lobster, for sharing your views. I appreciate it and want to inform you that I previously lived in Germany, where I purchased two AppleCare+ plans. We had our children's devices replaced for free (0 Euros) about four times. Given this context, I assumed the global warranty would work the same way.

Regarding Bob's information, I was never provided with this link or document. The only information I received was an email after the purchase, which also did not mention these details.

There's no point in discussing this further here since it won't reach the right audience. However, I've learned a valuable lesson: ALWAYS ask about hidden costs when shopping in America. :D
