AirPod Pro 2nd Gen showing up as 1st Gen in Model # on phone & wont update firmware.

I’m on 17.5.1, iPhone 13 Pro. And bought brand new AirPod Pro 2nd Gen Lightning Cable Case as my old Air Pod Pros quit working. I’ve tried every single route to updating the firmware of them. The transparency & noise cancellation do not work as they’re out of date, can’t update them, & they don’t even have the features they’re supposed to like Adaptive sound & such. They even show up as old Model A2084 number which isn’t even close. This I seriously annoying. They show up in Support app as 2nd gen Pros. But model # says otherwise & will not update off Version 5E135

AirPods being Incorrect:

A. Verify these are Genuine AirPods:

  1. Get the Serial Number: Find the Serial Number of your AirPods - Apple Support
  2. Enter the Serial Number here: https://checkcoverage.apple.com/.
  3. View the Results: If all shows up as an AirPod, then you are fine. If not, then these are fake, and you should request a return.

B. Return These:

If purchased form Apple, then is it likely an mis-packaged item. If no H-Seam, then they are not genuine. So, contact contact Apple Support, if you've been sold the wrong item. If not purchased from Apple, then request a return. If purchased from a web site, such as eBay, then request a return.

Try to forget your previous AirPods device, make sure they are way far away from your phone.

Use the method bellow to reset the old Airpods as well and put it away with the case closed

Open the case on the new AirPods, press and hold the button behind the case for 30 seconds, it will do a hard reset on the AirPods.

Press the power key once on your phone, Press Volume Up and them Volume down quickly and quickly press and hold the Power button on the phone for about 15 seconds; the phone will do a cold restart.

Once the phone restart, open the case on the Airpods and hold the button for about 5 seconds to enter pairing mode and connect to your phone.

It should show the correct AirPods Pri Gen 2.

Listen to some music for about 5 min or so, put the AirPods back into the case, close it and connect the charger.

Leave the phone by it and check back in about 20-30 min and it should be updated

"Literally wish I could return these, but got these as a gift from a family member while I was home in KY for vacation. I’m now back in NC 9 hours away, & yes. When I open the support app, they show up as AirPod when I type in the serial #, also show up as AirPod Pro 2nd Generation when I view them on support app as well. But in info tab of Bluetooth, they’re not updated & wont update at all. "

Getting Refund:

Sorry to heat. Send these back to your Family Member, and have them perform the return. I presume you paid nothing on these --if so, then it'd be nothing on you, financially. So, show them my reply, and have them look into the sale. If not purchased from Apple, then these may be ungenuine, and they should return these. So, if purchased from a third party site (i.e. eBay), then have them contact eBay, seeing if the seller can be help accountable. I wouldn't expect a family member to play any role in this, but what who'll I know? :)

As an Example:

If purchased from eBay, go to Avoiding seller fraud, and click the Report an issue button.
