Images are not loading in the Mail App on my iPhone 15 Pro Max

Using the mail app, the images inside of my emails are not loading. I am on an iPhone 15 pro max, iOS 17.5.1. When I open an email with images (which is most of them) I see a small blue square with a “?”. I have restarted my phone, closed and relaunched the mail app and no change.

I'm having the same problem and it just started happening. This is probably not isolated.

On July 27, 2024, I encountered the same problem on my iPhone XR IOW 17.5.1, AND on my iMac OS 13.6.7 and checked with this community. I noticed that others were having the same issue and decided to hold off in hopes that Apple might resolve the matter. As of this morning, 7-28, the images have been restored on the iPhone without any intervention on my part. However, they are still missing on the iMac. Is anyone else having this problem?

1. Check Your Internet Connection

  • Make sure you're connected to the internet, either via Wi-Fi or cellular data. Try loading a webpage or another app that requires internet to verify your connection.

2. Enable Remote Images

  • Go to Settings > Mail and ensure that Load Remote Images is toggled on. This setting allows the Mail app to load images from the internet.

3. Check Mail Settings

  • In the Mail app, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts. Select the account you're having trouble with and ensure that the settings are correct and that the account is properly synced.

4. Update iOS

  • Ensure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS. Sometimes, updating your software can fix bugs and issues. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check for updates.

5. Re-add Your Email Account

  • Sometimes removing and re-adding the email account can help resolve sync issues.
    1. Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
    2. Select the problematic account and choose Delete Account.
    3. After deleting, restart your iPhone.
    4. Go back to Settings > Mail > Accounts and choose Add Account to re-add your email account.

6. Check Mail App Restrictions

  • Ensure that there are no restrictions set on the Mail app that might be blocking images.
    1. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
    2. Make sure restrictions are not set for Mail or images.

7. Check for Third-Party Email App Conflicts

  • If you have any third-party email apps installed, they might interfere with the Mail app. Try disabling or uninstalling them to see if the issue resolves.

8. Reset Network Settings

  • If the problem persists, you might want to reset your network settings. Be aware that this will erase saved Wi-Fi passwords and other network-related settings.
    1. Go to Settings > General > Reset.
    2. Choose Reset Network Settings.

9. Contact Apple Support

  • If none of the above steps work, it may be best to contact Apple Support or visit an Apple Store for further assistance.

These steps should help you resolve the issue with images not loading in your Mail app. If the problem continues, there could be a deeper issue that requires professional support.

I turned off the “do not track IP” and the images all loaded. So, while my images are loading i’m now open to tracking which is opposite to Apple’s intention.

I may not correctly understand Apple’s concept but the way I understand is that Apple breaks the tracking chain by downloading the images to the Apple Cloud AND THEN sending the images to our Apple Mail apps (which is shielded from tracking). As I said, I may be wrong but that theory seems logical…and a brilliant approach by Apple. And, Google, Meta, etc must not be happy

How odd - I had to disable on my iPhone to get the images back and enable it on my MacBook to get the images back. (It wasn't enable prior.)

Is someone hacking the iOS? Why is this happening all of a sudden. There has not been an iOS update? (Many people are having this issue today.)

Well, I can not speak to the statement: "(Many people are having this issue today.)"

bits get flipped...

Glad you got it sorted.
