Lightning to hdmi adapter

I am thinking about buying a lightning to hdmi adapter so I can watch movies using Hulu and my phones data on my tv. This Tv is not a smart tv and I have read several posts on this sight and others warning that this will not work. Is this true or false.

I would use a screen cast situation if I had access to good WiFi but I am limited to using the unlimited data on my phone.

I would appreciate if someone could give me suggestions on what to buy as far as adaptors to accomplish the simple task of watching movies streaming on Hulu using data on my phone on a bigger screen. I remember a day when this was not really a big deal and then it just wouldn’t work anymore.

Please help. I need a straight answer. Logically it should work.

Thank you. I may be showing my age but, I do remember a time when you could do this across the board . Then one day I could not watch movies like this on google play anymore. Your answer was exactly my guess but from time to time somebody tries to convince me otherwise. I would assume a lot of stuff that is public domain plays just fine and copyrighted material does not. ARGH MATEY! lol

Right. That would be fine but I do not have access to reliable WiFi. I’m stuck watching streaming services on my iPhone. I pay for the apps and services but just can’t watch on full size tv at the moment. It can be very frustrating. I could get a portable hot spot and use that but the data I would need to stream would be too expensive. It just wouldn’t last long at all.
