When I search for an event that is definitely on my calendar the search feature on my iPhone does not find it.
on my iPad the same event is found.
it is a recurring event and on the iPad I see a list of the events.

On your iPhone, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Show All, turn off iCloud Calendar, keep your data if prompted, restart the iPhone and turn back on iCloud Calendar. Wait for the search index to be rebuilt (a few minutes should be enough) before trying to search.
