Which USB-C cable do I need for the MBP 61w power adapter?

Hello, I read that not all USB-C cables are created equal so I'm wondering which one I need for the MBP 61w power adapter? Mine is completed frayed on both ends and I need to replace it.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.5

Thank you for that. I’m wondering if any USB-C cable will work? I read that some USB-C cables have different capabilities?

USB-C power delivery cables do have different power ratings, with all allowing up to 60 watts, and higher-spec cables allowing up to 100 watts, or up to 240 watts.

Apple currently sells 60 watt charging cables, and 240 watt cables.

You’ll here want a cable rated for 100 watts, or for 240 watts.

Apple used to sell 100 watt cables too, but discontinued those when the 240 watt cables became available.

Get a Robust Cable:

A. Going Brand-for-Brand:

Frankly, I always go Apple-for-Apple, though not required. It allows for dependability and reliability.

B. Fabric is More Robust:

As for a more robust cable, a third-party cable that is fabric might do the job. You'll find one at a local retailer, or online at Amazon.

Which USB-C Cable to Use:

Any long cable (2 or more feef) should work for the charge, particularly a crisp and clean one. So, purchase a new one out of the box. As for short cables (6-12 inches), that's typically for mobile device connections (i.e. iPhone connections and other hardware).

"Thank you! I appreciate the response! The reason I was asking was because I tried to get a new one through my apple care they were charging me $20+ refundable fee plus a $100+ non refundable “service fee” because they said I need a very specific one!"

You are welcome.

Get a Third-Party Cable:

If Apple were to replace the cable, it most-certainly would not be a robust one (coated with fabric). So, go for a store brand --no one says you need to go with Apple. Lookup reviews of the seller, and of the item, when it comes to trustworthiness and device operably.
